HUB Bay Area - Summer 2013 Internship Program Details

 

The HUB Bay Area is a community of more than 1,000 social innovators who gather to put ideas for social and environmental change into action. Our members are entrepreneurs, activists, artists, and professionals who envision a different world.

 

The HUB's Internship Program brings whole person development together with skills-based, experiential, entrepreneurship curriculum. Join us to explore the question of how to enter the world of work as somebody who wants to do good in the world.  Apply now.

 

COMMUNITY

You will join a cohort of other young changemakers working at the HUB. The cohort supports and learns from one another, building their experience collectively. We support social events in the intern community, ranging from exploring San Francisco to weekend backpacking trips. Interns also meet regularly once a week for curriculum organized by our staff and members of our community.

 

PROGRAMMING & CLASSES

The internship begins with a day-long orientation designed to introduce the core concepts of the program and build a strong network of relationships among interns.We'll also host 5-10 classes including: Social Enterprise 101; Social Finance, Impact Investing, & the Sharing Economy; Mindfulness & Contemplative Practice; Design Thinking; Critical & Root Cause Analysis; Lean Startup Methodology; Intro to Web Design; Career Development Skills

 

PROJECT BASED LEARNING

You'll team up with other interns to do research on social sector companies and present findings. You'll also curate and create a blog about your experience, as well as conceive of, design, and implement a project of the group's choosing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Our program is selective but open to diverse applicants. Before applying, please make sure to explore available position descriptions here. In general, we are looking for students, recent graduates, or anybody questioning how to start a career building a better world. Our interns are intelligent, curious, and have excellent social skills.

 

TYPES OF WORK

All of our interns move through the same program, but their specific jobs vary. You may be placed in the following departments, and will have the opportunity when you apply to indicate your preferences. We typically are able to place every member of the cohort in their first choice department.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Start Date: May 24th 2013 End Date: August 30th, 2013

Commitment & Hours: Interns commit to a regular schedule of at least 15 hours per week. They are also expected to attend orientations, trainings, and other educational aspects of the HUB's internship program.

 

Benefits & Compensation: Interns receive a full-time membership during their time here, and for one month beyond the duration of their internship. Additionally, they may attend all regular HUB programming free of charge. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
