Signature Development Group will be hosting an outreach and information meeting to provide an overview of its Phase I infrastructure design and construction schedule.  The meeting will also provide the business community with information about opportunities to participate in the project’s professional services opportunities.  This project is seeking participation from businesses located within the cities of Alameda, Emeryville, Oakland and San Leandro as well as those businesses that are located within the broader confines of Alameda or Contra Costa Counties.  As the project moves into the infrastructure construction phase, the project’s contractors will also be seeking Oakland residents to participate in the construction work.

The Brooklyn Basin project would convert an underutilized, maritime and industrial area into a mixed-use neighborhood with residential, retail/commercial, open space, and marina uses on Oakland Estuary.  The project is anticipated to contain approximately 3,100 residential dwelling units; approximately 200,000 square feet of active ground-floor retail uses; approximately 30 acres of new and improved parks and open space improvements; and renovation of Clinton Basin Marina and Fifth Avenue Marina upon build out.  Residential building heights would range from six to eight stories (up to 86 feet) in height, with high-rise tower elements of up to 24 stories (240 feet) on certain parcels.  In conjunction with the construction of open space improvements a continuous public pedestrian trail and Class I bicycle facility will be provided along the entirety of the project’s waterfront as a segment of the Bay Trail.  In the first development phase the project will demolish a maximum of 165,000 square feet of the existing 180,000 square foot Ninth Avenue Terminal building and a portion of its existing wharf to create the largest (9.7 acres) of a series of interconnected parks and waterfront space.  The remaining portion of the Terminal’s Bulkhead Building, approximately 20,000 square feet, will be seismically upgraded and architecturally restored  and is envisioned to contain a variety of uses consistent with the Tidelands Trust.

A TASTE OF OAKLAND: OUR VISION

A Taste of Oakland is an event series that showcases and highlights the offerings of restaurants, retailers and galleries located in Oakland's neighborhood commercial districts. The mission of the founding partners -- two Oakland natives, Helen Wyman (of Oakland Events) and Lamont Dawson -- is to promote local businesses, highlight Oakland's assets, change perceptions of Oakland, build a sense of community between the residents and the business community and showcase the culinary revolution that has become prominent in the food industry, establishing Oakland as a culinary destination. Our vision is to collaborate and partner with existing organizations to establish neighborhood events such as the Uptown Block Party throughout Oakland in order to build brand recognition, establish relationships and generate revenue laying the foundation for a weekend long large scale event similar to A Taste of Chicago, which is a major economic boost and tourist destination for the city.
